I will be helping Alan on this no doubt long journey.
Currently the car is at my house taking up my drive up on a jack because of the n/s wheel bearing. Its gettign pressed in but the garage were busy so I need to pick up the hub carrier tomorrow morning.
The driveshaft nut came off and someone had crossthreaded it before so its in a right mess, I am unsure if it will bolt back up again properly.
Anyway being bored I decided to clean up the bolts and the caliper carrier cos they were in his boot.
So caliper carrier
nice paint job, if you notice the lower sliders rubber boot isn;'t fitted right and it also has a small hole, the top slider was siezed solid.
lower slider out
Cleaned it all up so the rubbers nice and clean and the gunge was removed from inside it and the carrier and the slider itself.
This is the seized one, this took a lot of effort to get it out that far
anyway this sliders rubber boot was all deformed and didn;t sit right at all.
So into boiling water it went then it was held in the right postion and held under cold water, seems to have sorted it.
Rubber boots, sliders and carrier cleaned and the sliders re-greased and put backin and now they slide as they shoudl and the dust boots are fitted properly
Also due to the siezed slider the carrier was quite a lot more dusty from brake dust on the inside than outside.
So the brakes should be improved now.
I also wire brushed the bolts in readiness for re-assembly. |

Well the first bearing has bn done (n/s) just need to get a new drive shaft now the nut has worn so thats another thing that needs done. The o/s bearing will b getting done next weekend aswell as the drive shaft (weather permitting), so hope all goes well on the other side of the car (fingers crossed) and i dont need a drive shaft 4 that side. |

heres the hub carrier with the shiny new bearing
the old one had thrown grease all over the carrier and the CV gaiter.
going back together, note nice new strut to carrier bolts and nuts, also chewed driveshaft thread
this is his front caliper piston, note all the large rust chunks, I scraped em all out which revealed a lot of moisture but thats now gone
heres the beast on the road again
