Well things are starting to take the piss now.
Clio's been in the garage for nearly 3 weeks now. Was first promised it ready for last weekend. I rang Monday to be told the welder's ran out of gas, ring Tuesday.
So rang yesterday and didn't get told very much. Got my mum to ring later on only to be told that the car will now be ready for this weekend!
"Apparently" there's just one spot of welding left and the test to do. However, I've been walking by the garage every night whilst taking the dog for a walk and the car appears to have not moved for over a week which makes me wonder whether anything's been done to it at all!
Now Brian is a family friend, and I know he is doing this work for a good price, but I do get the feeling that I'm being shoved low down on the priorities list which is fair enough, but I do think it's starting to take the piss a little.
Beginning to wonder if I'll ever get my Valver back! |

Thats the thing about getting mates to do things for you.
Because they arent getting paid, or not getting paid the full going rate, they often think its ok to do a half arsed/slow/poor job.
Then that puts you in an awkward position because you dont want to look like an ungrateful swine by saying anything. |

Mmm yeah it's not as bad as it could be because I've still got the 19 to get me around bless her.
But....I've owned the car since the end of June now, so nearly three months and I've had what, 4 days use out of it? |

Well it's still in the garage and it still ain't moved......not looking good for Ladybower.
I'm trying my hardest not to kick off, but I'll go round tomorrow as I need to know the VIN and the mileage to apply for the V5 so it'll be good a time as any to see how it's going.
I'll ask for a specific day when the car'll be ready and if it ain't done then I'll kick off. |

And Chris I'd love to get it but I'd still have the small problem of having an MOT-less car and knowing that there's nowhere that would do the work any cheaper! |

Right, went round this morning to enquire how the car was getting on and also to make a note of the VIN and mileage for the insurance.
Apparently all that's holding up now is the wait for a sheet of steel to patch up the large gap on the nearside rear sill. Then the car can be MOT'd.
Also retrieved all the manuals and old paperwork for the car, some interesting stuff in there:
A bank statement from the first owner that showed a balance of £2134! Wouldn't mind that mesen!
The anti-roll bar was replaced some years ago.
Service history shows that all services bar 1 were at Alexander Rankine's Renault Dealership. The book shows that the next service is due now (84,000) so perhaps I should think about getting it booked in for one or do it myself. That just leaves one gap in the service history at about 78,000 miles or so.
There's about 5/6 old tax discs.
And there's the last MOT certificate.
Speaking of MOT certificates I came across the failure sheet Brian filled out:
Rear brakes poor effort
Parking brake poor effort
Sills holed
Fuel leak
But if it's all getting sorted for £100 including the test fee then it's all good. |

like I said hes lying about the rear brakes or his equipment is faulty.
They passed when they were rusty apart from the handbrake effort! |

Well I now have the Clio back.
Fully welded up, fuel leak sorted and a clean bill of health for the next 12 months as of today.
£135 the bill was altogether.
Unfortunately the car will soon be off the road AGAIN because I have to send off for the V5 for the Clio. Obviously as the car isn't yet in my name I have not been sent the vehicle tax renewal forms so until I get the V5 through I can't tax it.
It expires on the 30th. |

Well the tax expires in under 2 hours!
Neo, in response to your above reply, just to clarify; are you saying I can go to a post office with MOT Cert. and Insurance Cert. and get the car taxed? |
