Well today i brought my good engine in for a rebuild. I had everything stripped so he could take a look immidiatly so he took everything out of the underblock which all looked very good. Besides that he took out a few valves to measure play etc. He showed me everything and within everything should be, in the end he said we could best fit new valve liners, seals, pistons, rings, etc. But there are no pistons available for the rebuild nor original from renault so the only option here is building clio 2.0 pistons or megane 2.0 pistons in!? What do you reckon? are they the same, or are the megane ones better then or worse then the clio ones.?
And should we do any other things if we go for the 2 liter pistons?

Cheers

Well if it is a good engine, why would it need need valve guides and pistons?

Is it already a 2.0 engine? If it is a 1.8 then you will need 2.0 pistons and a crank as well.

What are your intentions? Just a fresh rebuild, new lease of life like? Or modifying for coping with lots of power?

Basic things you will need:

Rings, bearings (big and main) oil seals and gaskets, and lots of time and money.

you can buy new 1.8 16v pistons from bb tuning

JB also has a very valid point with what he said

you can't make the 1.8 a 2 litre, it won't clear. Well you can grind holes in the crankcase then put gaffa tape over them i suppose.

Anyway he asked if her could use 2 litre pistons.

Yes you can but the compresion ratio will drop away as the 2 litre pistons are dished. So it will be down on power and everything else tbh.

You can get new pistons from AE

So we can't just put 2 liter pistons in? that's a pitty. The reason why we came up with that is because the 1.8 pistons are not available from ae?? So what should i do then??? Because i don't want to use oversize rings because it will always use some oil and that's one of the things i want to stop! It's away for a rebuilt and i want it done right so i need to know what parts to put in!?

AE pistons were avauilable from AE a few months back, I can't see there being a sudden big demand for them and them running out.

Get another engine use the best pistons out of them all.

The pistons are good but there is 3mm play and the bores are 1-2mm oval so i want it honed with oversize pistons like 82.05 but there are no oversized pistons from AE. The importer for holland said they only do the original size 82.00?? Or is he wrong??

erm if theres 3mm of play then the pistons are not good and tbh neither is the bore!

Standard piston dia is about 81mm, about 80.950 81 ish.

play in the bore is about 0.025 - 0.05mm, they are a reasonably tight fit in the bore.

bore goes up to 82mm on ther f type 16V engines.

and yes its an arse of an area.

either get a few other blocks and pick the best or get in touch with Ben R or Stan and see abotu them supplying reasonably proced forged efforts.

aside from the dished crown, the 2.0 pistons have different pin heights so you couldnt use them with the 1.8 crank.

can you not try putting the williams engine pistons in the block as they are bigger.

or maybe getting a new block would be easier. there is one on ebay at the mo

can he not do the desiel crank thing and mod the block slightly. chris H says it wont work thow. is that because you have to take to much from the block thus weekening it or is it to do with the bores

the diesel crank hits the bores and the con rods hit the block, to get them to clear in some parts the rods would be outside the block.

We have a few guess running a 2 liter setup build on the F7P basis using a diesel crank you do need to clean the block on a few places till it's very thin but we have like 15 of them here and all of them are still on the road without problems but i don't have the money to do such a thing...

just depends on the casting, I have no doubt on a lot of blocks, relieving the block enough will make a hole.
