My car is currently off the road but it gets started up every weekend when I go to where it's stored. However I went to start it today and started up then died, it wont start at all now.
Am I right in thinking either the alternator or the starter motor is gone? |

so it started and ran for a second then died?
How did you come to the conclusion that the starte ror alt have died?
What is is doing or not doing? |

It's wanting to start, its turning but not running if you get me. As I know absolutley nothing about cars, thats the best way I could put it, thats the reason for me thinking it was the alt or the starter |

Sounds to me like the renault immob needs to be reset due to the battery being discharged.
Depending on ECU type the immob disables the injectors, Recharge the battery and reset the ECU (by plipping the car locked and then unlocked making sure doors, bonnet and boot are closed whilst you do this)
Then try to start it. |

well that depends on how old the thing is. If its a late ph2 (N plate) then yeah.
Get jump leads on it and hold the button down so it thinks the bonnets closed.
if its crankign fine and immob isn't an issue you need to check for spark and fuel. |

If the plip does not work or you don't have a plip key then on a fully charged battery (or with a mate holding down the bonnet switch and jump leads) sit inside the car and operate the central locking switch again locking the car and then unlocking it |

ok, I think I may have fuel pump issues, i tried starting it up again today but i went into the engine bay and pumped the fuel through using that black thing above the fuel filter (i dont know what the right name is for it) the car then started the next time i tried but died after about 2 secs. |

you have a diesel then?
That would have helped earlier.
You have either a faulty lift pump, porous filter head or lines or a simple leak somewhere.
If you keep primign thebulb it will run as long as you keep pumpign it.
Try doing that in a 106 diesel on your own and driving it, great fun! |

see if you can see any staining around the filter head etc, if you can slap heavy grease all over it, see if it then starst and runs as the grease stops the leaks. |
