saw a fimpsy loookin bit of paint and a gentle prod revealed this mother of a hole!
nice...i get the feeling that there are similar holes under all the mounting points for the skirts. i get the impression renault just drilled and screwed the skirts to the sills without dealing with the holes they created properly....
now do i sort it or just assume that the yrs it will take to actullay be a problem i prolly wont have it anymore. |

when i first had a go at my torsion bar i was shit scared of what i was going to find under the skirts when i took them off... but as it happens, there was no rust whatsoever under there. I guess i got lucky, or the car has been kept garaged most of its life.

neals is well clean, even the nylon screw retainer things on the bottom are clean.
normally you need to melt them from behind with a blow torch to get the skirts off. I have yet to see one that unscrews, quite often the bottom isn't actually attached to anything but rust so after the tops loosened it just slides and pulls off. |

yes thats an mot failure, any hole sin the sills caused by rust are mot failures, depending on the tester discretion he may judge that part not to be loaded so may pass it. |

get it welded, also black marks will have been from a gas torch and done by a muppet on the cheap. You can weld a plate in and only the bit welded will show any distress.
fibreglass or brazing or filler is unnacceptable on the sills as its a loaded chassis member, it prevent the car falling in on itself, pulling its self apart etc. |
