I know this question has been asked over n over n over again but i need advice. When i purchased my 19 16v the previous owner had been using halfords own brand 10W 40 oil, i then started using Castrol GTX just before the headgasket went i switched to castrol magntec. I've just had my engine rebuilt completely with all new bearings etc etc and it should be fitted this weekend. so my qn is.. for a new build WHICH oil should i use? |

Since you got it all rebuild, why not a synthetic? 5w-40 or 0w-40 would do, but you still should be carefull about reving the engine when it's cool (say, below 65º C)... |

Thanks for all the help guys, but i phoned my local renault dealer (london west) and they're selling ELF oil for £15 (5litres) SO many people keep telling me of different oils and i dont wanna risk messing it up again as im sure everything started to f*** up wen i switched to Magntec |

its a poor effort by them tbh
its a well documented issue on the renault engines that they don;t like it.
normal gtx is perfectly fine though |

When I bought mine, I started using expensive oils for its quality and mileage. After a few I've come to the conclusion that's best to use a cheaper oil with more changes, because like that the "engine flushing" effect will be greater, and it will run cleaner

comma might be cheap but its a small business in england and they have a race series as well I beleive so hardly inferior.
Excedes all the current min ratings for oil. |

I change oil at 7500 Km
Elf Competition ST 10W 40 was used in the car up to 63000 Km
I now use Motul Synergie 5W 40. Which is over kill for a 7500 Km oil change.
But I'm happy. |
