HOW DOES IT WORK?

as most of you all know i am planning to buy a valver in the end ,

1-lets say

i found one with no tax but mot on it which is about 20 miles away from

home and the car is drivable .how am i going to bring this car home ?

whats the legal procedure if a cop pulls me over on the way.

2-obviously the car i am buying wont be insured till i have it insured and

how am i going to bring it home in that case ? what if i have an acident on

the way home again ? (i got third party and theft )

3-i got 2 parking spaces that belongs to me in the housing estate i live ,

is that space classed as public road and can i keep an untaxed car in

that space after declaring the car off road till i get it fixed and want to put

it on road again?

i know they are weird questions but would be hepfull to know rather than

going with the flow

dont think there is anyway round it...if it isnt taxed and u r now the owner driving it on the road, u r breaking the law.

again...u r now the owner so if u drive it without insurance that is what it is....driving without insurance. when i bought my car i had arranged beforehand with an insurance company the quote and everything and the cars numberplate...so all i had to do before i left was ring them and say "activate please" so i was covered from that moment on.

no i dont think your parking space would count as "off the road". in their eyes it is still on the public highway.

but if u just wanna get the car home and dont plan to drive it for a while cos your want to SORN it then it is a risk u have to decide to take to just drive it home with no ticket or insurance. cos it is a pain in the arse otherwise.

i drove mine home with no tax, but was insured on it though. if was to get pulled over, i had all the infomation to prove that i had JUST brought the car, its insured also, had the tempoary registration thingy.
and the only way to get it home was that precise day, was a sunday too, so coudent get tax even if i wanted to as it was about 4 when i picked it up.

copper wud of had to of been a rite arsehole to nick me for it.

never the less got it back with no tax Smile

mind you no tax = void insruance dont it?

Tax does not void insurance, however in some cases no MOT will, check with your insurer if you are thinking of doing this.

1) You must have a tax disc displayed on the window and have the car insured before you drive it on the road.
You may insure it yourself or if you can eastablish some way that the guy you are buying it of owns the car until you arrive home you may be able to drive it under your existing insurnace (3P), if the guy has it insured already.

2) See above, depends on how you insue it.
Alternatively for a hassle free drive home borrow a trailer.

3) If you own the property or rent the property it is okay, I would guess.

so the proper way seems to be hiring a trailer in the end ,its a real pain in the ass though .i changed 4 cars in the last 20 months always drove home with no insurance .

I'd go with driving it as it is with fingers crossed!!

Would prob be my own downfall, but as long as you dont drive it like a plank......

nah i would not hire a trailer at all ,i am just saying thats the proper way to do .i will just drive carefull and keep fingers crossed as i have been doing so far.

Only legal way to drive without an MOT is if you are on the way to a prebooked test

1. like chet said to drive any car without an mot/tax is to a pre-arranged MOT test.

2. Phone up when you get there, but you can either transfer the policy over or you may have to take out a years insurance on it.

3. thats classed as public property so decalaring it sorns fraud.

thats the official view.

1. Just drive it and cross your fingers I have done it many a time.

2. To much hassle, cross your toes.

3. Won't matter if the police don't regularly check and your neighbours are ok.

I think trade plates are a legal way to drive a car without MOT.

Also it may be legal if you are taking the car for repairs to another garage in order to pass a MOT test. (More applicable in NI, as we has government run test centres).

I'm not 100% sure about these things, so check them out elsewhere.
