lo peeps,
I'm have a R19 with 144K on and the release bearing is definately screw'd i think it has already colapsed as it screeching and scraping now, off the road from today me thinks,
I am wanting to put a Clio williams engine in and have located one with gearbox, but the guy wants £1200 no offers, 50K on the clock, inc of delivery and VAT.
This is a shit load of money, can anyone give me some advice, as to what my options are, i.e. rebuild maybe, if so can any recommend where, or
Has anyone here actually done this conversion, and can tell me exactly what needs to be done, I have heard from different people, I need to use the engine mounts from R19, and she will slot straight in Engine and box that is from the willy, also that i need to use the Power Steering pump from the R19, and alternator from R19, although i heard that the williams has a lighter alternator and i can actually use this but not sure again, also that i can use the exhaust manifold from the willy as it tubular, does anyone know if this will connect straight on to the downpipe of the R19,l also heard that i need to use the inlet manifold from R19, and obviously have the ECU rechipped, also the pipes are a little different on the Aux water pump and it needs to be secured further up, is there anything else i need to do, or be aware of??
I'm also thinking of turbo'in it after, and thought a turbo would be better on the 2L Williams anyway.
These engines are becoming rare now, I have asked around ALOT of breakers, renault breakers etc etc, and have only located 2 one was engine only for £800 (80K), and this other at £1200 (50K with gearbox).
If anyone knows where any other might be then please say?
Regards
Kev

nice one jonnyboy, I just need to chat to someone who has first hand of the conversion,
yeah i did have the arches done, new front wing, new sill, rear panel and the rest painted while i was there, somone smaked the back in traffic so they paid which was nice
so with the fact the she's in such good condition i think the conversion is worth it, and as i said, i'm definately thinking of turbo'in her also.

williams driveshafts are the same as 19s....its the std 16v clio that has shorter ones.
ph1 and ph2 19 driveshafts can be mixed. |

lol @ neal, i was just thinkin that
Best thing to do is switch all the bits over from your old engine, just use the bare head and block from the williams.
The 19 exhaust manifold supposedly flows better than a willy one so keep it.
I think theres some issues with starter motors so jimbo is probably the one to ask about that.
Ebay all the other gubbins to get some money back |

the willy starter is smaller (and sounds like a proper starter too!) but whether that means a 1.8 starter can fit or not i cannot remember. |

Chet: and by doing this I don't have to update the ECU at all?, as I heard it changes fueling to bring it inline with the valva size, and CC etc on the willy.?
Is this right? |

easiest thing to do would be to get a willy ECU with the engine and use that.... |

right kewl, cause i had just had a chat with Prima and they said use the ECU and loom froim the willy....
I'm starting to become very confused.
Can someone just explain to me, why would it be neccessary if the engines are so similar to use the loom from the R19, ECU from the R19?
if the willy engine carry's both

because theres a lot more to the loom than just going from the engine to the ECU!
the whole car's electrics are all integrated into it |

this is what my whole stupid person post was about, you ask a Q I give the right answer then you go and get other answers, very good.
Also the 350 quid megane lump george was talking about I told him about, scrappy I know was selling box, engine, engine loom ECU and the BIC for £350. |
