right, i have decided to get the red 19 16v that was on ebay, this one,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&item=180028055781&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
now, many of you know i have project XIX underway so heres the dilemma.....
the tango 19 16v (because as its red, the bonnet, most of the roof, and top of wings are a subtle tango shade).........
plus points :- runs sweet as a nut, and a lot of it has good condition parts, drives really quite well
not so good points :- i think the sills would need doing as i expect they wouldnt pass an MOT (but i dont know how bad they have to be to fail), head gasket needs doing,
XIX........
plus points :- best colour i think, black, pretty solid
not so good points :- both rear arches need doing, runs a bit rough,
so what do you think i should do? or what would you do? bearing in mind money is a bit on the tight side.....
a) keep XIX as the priority car, car swap things over on it until it runs sweet as the red one does now, then scrap the red one and dont bother with head gasket......
b) do the head gasket, stick it in for an MOT and hope it passes with the sills as they are, and use it for a year or sell it......
c) take what i want off the red one and use on XIX, and turn tango 16v into a trackday car........ or just sell as spares for £30......
d) any suggestions?

and the level on the red car may need topped up for the ps or the strut bearings are siezed. easy fix.
Also the fact the red car runs better with a blown hg surely must tell you somethign about yours! |

oooooooookkkkkkkk, lol, guess that might be described as bad if they see that, have to double check then, wouldnt be any good making a decent car out of it, as its red, lol, with XIX i reckon its something electrical that causing it run a little roughly, and idle erratically, so my idea of swapping electrical items over bit by bit may not be such a bad idea? but if water has got into the sump, of the red one, that may be bad too? |

tbh the method of swapping till it goers away is a poor method.
Just like the main dealers way, of rteplace bits until its fine.
Water in the sump won;t be an issue tbh unless its been there for 20 years |

oh ok, i just thought that logically, if the 2 are side by side, one running good the other running rough, and swap bits like say, the ECU, and the running is reversed, then that would be the problem? its just that if i did things bit by bit, then i would have to buy bits of ebay, wait for them to be delivered, and then it might not actually be that bit, if you see what i mean. Renault dealers/service departments are dicks when it comes to finding a problem, already been into them before and got ripped off, never again |

yeah but why go to that hassle and time when if you get the problem then sort it right away?
change the ECU, not that,m then the sensors, not them, the loom, then the alt, the ICV, lambda, TPS none of those, poor compressions cos the engiens gubbed. |

well, the engine is gonna be replaced anyway, with a rebuilt one by me and dad, so we know exactly whats in it, lol, but its run roughly on both engines its had, which is why i suspect something electrical somewhere......
and as im rebuilding XIX i can examine each part as i take off, compare with the red one, and see if its in better nick !!!
as always, i appreciate the advice/suggestions, which is why i like this place!!
anyone nearby is welcome to come and visit me and inspect my "fleet" |
