top mounts might be cracked, or the bearings or a balljoint. |

Have you had any work done to your car recently?
The reason I’m asking is because I had a similar knocking noise on my Laguna (old shape). Just like you describe it happened while turning at low speeds or if I was on a rough surface at low engine revs. It sounded like the exhaust manifold or something was loose and knocking on the bulkhead or the floor.
I had someone sit in the car while I gave everything I could find a good shake, on wobbling the engine I could here a squeaking coming from the top engine mount but inside the car it sounded as a knock.
On further investigation I could see that the engine mount hadn’t been positioned correctly after a recently cam belt change and I could see clean marks were the bolts had previously been, after slackening the mount and repositioning it to the marks the knocking stopped.
Hope this makes sense :) |

To do the top mount bearings you are going to have to have the strut off the car. Easy job.
Top mount itself is the shiney goldish thing, bearing is located between this and the spring plate. If ure unlucky like me the top half of the bearing was corroded into the top mount.

Your best bet it to keep it all standard, bearings are dirt cheap from GSF around £9 each. However the top mounts are expensive and reno only jobs unless you can find a good pair at the scrappers. |

standard is by far best. |
