Hi guys, just a quick question....
I've had a whining noise on the car for a while now. When you're looking at the engine bay with the engine running, it sounds like it's coming from underneath the cam cover, so I just thought it was the cambelt being too tight or too loose or whatever. So anyway, a few weeks ago I had my cambelt changed (not just because of this noise before you all say I'm mad!), and I was just expecting the noise to be gone but it's still the same after a new cambelt, all new tensioners etc. The noise still sounds like it's coming from underneath the cam cover tho. It gets worse as the car gets hotter, and if I really give it some stick for a bit.....it gets really loud like.
I've done a recording of it, and if any of you guys can shed some light on what it might be then that'd be great. But yeah, I know that listening to a crap quality recording isn't really gonna be that much help to you all!
Cheers anyway tho

Okie doke. That's what I thought, but it just seems weird that the noise was there before & after the cambelt change. So it was too tight before, and now I've had it done it's too tight again? Just seems like too much of a coincidence. Ah well. The guy that did the cambelt is a legend aswell, he is so well known around here. He race prepares sierra cosworths and mainly works on performance cars etc. But yeah, I guess he got it wrong!
So is the fact that the belt is too tight a big problem? Am I gonna damage anything long-term? Or do I just have an annoying whining noise to put up with but no real problem for the engine?
Sorry for all the daft questions. Cheers guys |

common mistake, especially on renaults, other cars don't tend to make a noise like the renault sdo unless they are mega over tight.
you can leave it, but if its loosened off slightly it will be totally silent. |

Okay cheers. Easy to loosen off? Even for a retard like me? I assume it's just adjusting a tensioner or something and that you don't have to actually take the belt off at any point? So do you just keep losening it slightly until it's quiet then? Cuz I'm guessing a belt that's too loose isn't gonna be good! |

its not liekt he aux belt, you loosen the nut and it loosens all the way off, so you have to hold tension on it.
go back to the guy say you have had several people say its to tight let it off a bit for me please...
...or I'll bad mouth you ya prick! |
