only sticks if its been on a while.
that heads been skimmed you say? Doesn't look like its been anywhere near a mill. The carbons still on the squish bands.
Get down B&Q in the morning, get some brown scotchbrite and clean the headface with it.
Also check the head face with a steel rule.
the area between cyls 3 and 4 going towards the headbolt hole. When you get the scotchbrite get them clean and look for pitting.
Also clean the block face with the scotchbrite.
The missing manifold nut. If you cannae get another one, see the 13mm that holds the ignition module on etc, same thread use that then get another for the moduel att he scrappy.
headgaskets don't need settling time, start it get it up to temp and have it fully loaded at 7krpm, its not like the bearings. |

yeah you get green and brown and blue scotchbrite, you want brown (metal)
Don't cut it, lay it across the head face and move it back and forth across the full length, Gets it blinging in no time.
dunno mate, I rarely use either tbh. got to the closest one/the one with them in stock. |

thats fine, its a lot cleaned now. the fire ring area is ok the other bit should seal against a gasket fine.
go over it a bit more again with the scotchbrite though. |

While the head is off waiting for a new head gasket
I try a sort out the starter. tested it out with one of my spare batteries and jump leads the cog just pops out not turn over the first time it takes a few goes before it turns over, same when I start the car up takes a few turns of the key before it starts.
can this be sorted by cleaning it out or will I need a new one its the valeo one. |

I have done the headgasket the problem is still there. Pressure is still coming out of the oil cap no black or blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. I can hear a slight knocking noise gets worse when I pull off I think one of the big ends have gone but can this make the pressure from the pistons leak in to the oil system ??? |

no, how much pressure exactly? is it spitting the cap sky high? theres always windage in the crankcase which vents out.
You will also get oil flung out off the cams.
the knock, pull an ht lead off and let it run, when the knock goes/lessens you know what cylinder it is, this also detects main bearign wear though, either way new engine tbh. |

when the cap is off oil is spitting out. but before the gasket change I could smell exhaust fumes coming out the oil cap and the pressure was much stronger than it was. I will go and buy a compression tester tomorrow to check it out need to get one anyway my jetski may be due for a rebuild for next summer need to check the compression.
What psi will I be looking for and if the compression fine is it OK to whip the sump off and replace the big end bearing or will I need to go and look out for a new short motor or engine |

pull the lump out and check the journals and get it ground if needed.
standard bearing on a worn crank will be justr as bad in a few hundred miles |
