Just ran my housemate into St Albans, on the way there is this dual carriageway about 1/4 mile long with the shopping centre off the roundabout at one end where there is a McDonalds etc. Basically it gets used as drag strip by neds on the weekend.
Anyway, having just got on the dual carriageway, i pulled into the right lane and floored it past a Focus. Just as i was past him i saw the cop car behind me and let off. On came his lights anyway so i pulled over.
I get out and we have a conversation that went something like this
Cop: do you know how fast you were going when i pulled you over?
Me: Er, not sure
Cop: You were doing 55
Me: ok
Cop: Its 40 along here so why were you doing 55?
Me: I have no excuse, sorry, but i must admit i thought it was a 50 limit along here
Cop: Even though there are signs all over saying 40?
[i looked about trying to see a sign]
Me: hmmhm
Cop: If i was a traffic policeman i would... You need to pay more attention...blah blah blah
Me: ok thankyou
And it was left at that, he checked all my details etc over the radio and I went on my way.
Now on the way back, i checked and it IS a fecking 50 along that bit of road! |

Yeh dual carriagways are 70 same as motorways if they are national speed limit, but more and more of them aren't anymore
I live just off a stretch of urban dual carriagway which has a supposed speed limit of 30 - not that any bugger takes much notice of it, not even the police. I guess that's london for ya
Your story reminds me of the time I got pulled by a dumb policeman. I was waiting at a red light, and it just didn't change for literally about 5 minutes, and this was a small junction at 2am with no other traffic around. So, trying to be a good person, I think 'it must be radar controlled, maybe it didnt see me' so I reverse up a bit to try and trigger it. Only as I'm doing it, a policeman comes round the corner and pulls up next to me and is like "you ok mate" - ie are you stoned or drunk - then proceeds to tell me that I look suspicious cause it looked like I was trying to reverse back behind the white stop line at the lights when I saw him coming, having jumped the line beforehand. Quite why I would jump the line and then change my mind half way across the junction, stop, put the car in reverse and pull back I don't know. So anyway I explain that the lights didn't seem to be working right, but did he believe me - did he bollocks.
So I have to get out of the car on this deserted junction on a freezing cold night in November, wearing just a shirt and trousers, while he proceeds to breathalise me, and repeatedly ask me if I was the owner of the car, where I was going, where I had come from, what my star sign was etc. He was either convinced I was on something, or he was just a total berk, and after seeing the document presentation form he filled in, I'm inclinded to assume the latter. Despite asking me to spell my name out twice for him, and having seen my photocard driving license with my name on it in block capitals, he still filled out the form with my name as Alexanda instead of Alexander, and he managed to spell my middle name totally wrong too. I think he got something else wrong on that form too but I can't remember what now - I think he wrote his name in the place you are supposed to write the police force name. Trying to explain this to the duty sergeant at my local cop shop when presenting my insurance cert was a bit of a laugh - her expression was bascially 'wtf'.
Anyway, so while this is going on, his mates turn up presumable cause they have nothing better to do, and just sit in their car behind our two cars. I'm freezing my bollocks off answering the same questions repeatedly to this police man for about 15-20mins before he lets me get back into my car. So I pull offhe verge back up to the lights, which are still on red, and the two police cars behind me pull up behind. I have absoultely no intention of jumping the lights obviously.
And so we sit there. And wait. And wait some more. And after about 10mins, the policeman who pulled me pulls alongside and says "Uhh, I think the lights must be faulty. You better just follow me through the lights". So while trying to stifle a laugh, I end up getting a two car police escort through a red light.
If I wasn't so knackered and cold, I would probably have seen the funny side more at the time. As it was, my respect for the police was just given a nice kick in the balls
I remember another news story about some 21yo bloke who had made millions somehow or another. He bought a 911, but after 6 months he sold it because he was getting pulled over 2-3 times every week and got fed up with it! The police just assumed he had nicked it
Ahhh police - don't ya just love 'em
Cheers

some funny policemen out there mate ,they are the same all over the world i suppose . they ask you stupid questions sometimes . its just not possible to not to get angry sometimes .
but of course there are many good ones as well, exactly the same thing happened to me ,i took over a car and been pulled over by the police car on my way home from work .luckily i had my uniform and id card on and the policeman recognised me and asked me to drive slower on that road next time , i think its the best to not to try and find an excuse in that sort of situation ,cause most will be silly as you have been speeding . i usually admit the mistake and say sorry and it has always worked so far . |

Not been pulled once in 13 months of driving..... It does depend on the copper...there are decent ones out there...they're the ones that you dont see, the ones you DO see however are the twats that pull you over for doing 42 in a 40. |

id definately agree with this. I dont try to make excuses, just hold my hands up and say sorry. If you put yourself in their shoes, people trying to make excuses will just piss you off and make you want to screw them over. |
