Hi.
Thanks to my bloody unsatisfying money situation I have to replace my R19's gearbox instead of ditching the the damn vehicle. It has a 1.4e engine and the old gearbox is JB1.
What, if any, other models will fit straight away? Chris? (I know you know)
I'm pretty pissed off since I thought that the loud annoying sound came from the gearshaft's inner yoke but unfortunately I was horribly wrong. |

Isn't the only difference between a JB3 and JB1 the diff mounting?
Any box should fit if so, unless theres some differences with the shafts |

I'm still lost but it doesn't matter. Thanks anyway. At least I know now that I should be able to toss a JB3 in without problems unless my wallet is conserned. |

JB1's and 3's and 5's will go in fine.
Chet was talking about how the diff is held into the gear box by a nut and not just a circlip. |

Be sure to check that the mount on the top of the gearbox is the same... unlike me. |

Whats the difference between a JB3 and 5? Is it just a strengthened version? |

Might be a bit of a sill question, but i've always wondered, if the JC5 is a basically strengthened version of the JB3 with diff ratios, why not put them in the 16's with the proper ratios, seeing as the gearbox seems to be abit of weak point? |

Thank you all.
I'll try to hunt a good box with a bit longer ratios for fuel economy. Motorway speeds with 4300rpm/s aren't very economical.
I'm quite sure now that it isn't any (ball) bearing or something like that. The differential is to blame. |

if you want a long legged cruiser then get a diesel box. or retain the same box but use a 5th gear cluster, will swap straight over and is an easy job. |

Hi!
Who manufactured the gearboxes for Renault 19s? Phase 1 JB3 models?
Actually, generally speaking, who builds the gearboxes for Renault? |

A dealer poped the statement that the gearboxes are getrag; but i doubt.
In getrag web site they mention only BMW and some other luxury stuff. Maybe in the old days.
Anyhow the dealer was completely out of logic with many other things, so I quite do not trust his information.
seemed to me getrag is for sports car.
Now I am curious if Peugeot (Citroen) are using brand name gearboxes or "home made" stuff. |

they are not getrag I can tell you that.
I have a dissassembled gearbox in my shed and theres no markings anywhere on it.
So I can only assume its made by renault themselves. |
