Bastard thing snapped on me way home today, leaving me stuck in a small country lane. On further inspection the cable had snapped just before it joins the injection pump, about 5 inches in. Anyway, 20 mins later and my dad shows up.
After lots of head scratching we decide to hook a long peice of braided string up to the throttle arm, routed it over the near side of the engine, out the bonnet(through an old pair of trousers, to protect the paintwork) and in through the passenger window...hey presto a makshift handheld throtte Got me the 14 miles home
Just need to fit me a new one now Any tips? Its on the TD.

done that trick many a time but the prob is you need a length of string and a passnger to opeartae it normally.
Anyway fitting the cable ain't hard.
at the pedal squeeze the white tags together to pop the cable out of the pedal. Then tie the string round the white bit. I know its snapped but if you go easy it should pull through.
Push the outer cable out from the inside at first then pull it through from under the bonnet.
The rubber gromments the trickest bit. If it pops out then you need to arse about fitting the new one, if it stays in leave it and just fit the new cable. |
