fitted new head gasaket + cambelt following haynes,, all tightned up, back together, start her up, runs fine, but with a really rather nasty sound, sorta wailing/rubbing, and a slight smell of hot rubber ( eek ) take it all back off again, ( grown )
to find this
belt was slightly loose, tightened, run it with covers off, sounds nasty! really nasty!
massive rubbing/whirring noise, idler and tension pulleys are both smooth and clean, oil pump seems smooth,
no visual signs of rubbing on any of the covers, which is odd
only thing i can think of are the bearings, not getting oil?? have i blocked an oil passage?
really really doing my head in.
shes not in the greatest of shape, cooling system was full of so much crap, not looked after all that well at all, and on 122k, so im thinking new engine,,
grrrr |

this happened to me once...the tensioner came off its pivot point and when i tightened it it bent the mount into the wheel thereby locking it solid, so when the belt ran the tensioner didnt rotate, the belt just skidded along it doin excatly as you describe. |

ooops yea, its a F7P from my valver,
the tensioner thing was my first thought, its a new one, the idlier isnt however, need even smaller hands to change that!
however they are both perfect.
oh and the head gasket was blown quite impresively, seriously shafted engine tbh |
