halfords sell carb cleaner.
The front chamber as you callit is the secondary choke, this open when you floor it etc. A lot of the time they don't open due to oil contamination.
What does that mean? About 20bhp loss.
I have pics somewhere that I will scan in for a weber 32tldr carb strip. |

Thanks Chris - those piccies would be interesting to see. I think perhaps the car has only bunged out oil through the breather when it was cold, as the backside of the manual chokes cable operated butterfly valve thing at the top of the primary choke is also covered with a liberal coating of oil, but the actual hole underneath it is nigh on spotless.
The oil has also overflowed and contaminated the rubbery seal between the air inlet and the main carb body, and it appears that it was leaking from there down the side of the carb. The oil in question is pretty black and scummy, so I reckon it might have been from before I owned the car as the oil was pretty rank when I got her - I don't think it had been changed for well over 10000 miles of mostly short run town driving! That was pretty much the first thing I did to her actually - change that shitty oil Ah well, at least she was cheap!
Cheers
