going from work to home ,the engine is heated up nicely (2nd line on the temp.gauge) . put my foot down on the 4th gear up to 5k revs, after 5 secs it smells of burned clutch in the cabin. everything is allright up till 4k revs but this happened a few times lately ,i got the same smell in the cabin at/over 5k revs. is the clutch slipping as the engine is revving high?
is it buggered ??
can i just keep driving at low revs (3-4k max) to make the clutch last longer ??/
by the way , NO i dont drive with my foot on the clutch pedal . |

my energy done 206k miles before it was written off.
I changed my energy clutch at 145k miles I needn't have bothered it was still fine.
Depending on how the cars driven the clutch could last for a million miles. If its in town all the time then you can knock one out in 10 k miles, if its driving every day from lands end to johogroats then its not really going to wear much.
What you need to find out is if the engine speed is increasing but the cars speed isn't increasing with it. If so the clutch is slipping. Now this could be due to a stretched cable making the adjuster pull it out or a faulty pedal.
Go on the motorway or somewhere get up to say 70 mph dip the clutch rev the engine up then bring the clutch out at the same time as flooring the throttle, the revs should drop instantly to the right amount for the speed (70 mph around 3500rpm) if the engine revs up and stays high then yep its slipping. |
