Thanks for that chris, I will try it today. I don't know if a flat battery buggered it up but it just stopped working.

if the batteries flat then you will need to go to renault for the code. If you want print the article out and show them as they will probably try and charge you for the code which is illegal but the public don;t knwo that.

So make lots of noise about it.

Just had the same problem with my ph1 megane, took every bit of paper work I owned for the car even the immobiliser instalation certificate with the code area left blank by the installer so they knew I meant buisiness. They didn't argue and gave me the code for free although they did offer to do it for me at a charge (well they would wouldn't they). Had no problems at all putting the code in but to re-sync the key I had to hold the central locking button in for 5 seconds then plip at the sensor - don't forget to do 2 keys you have to make sure you only lock and unlock the first key once other wise you will code it twice (as only 2 keys can be coded at one time according to renault). I even reprogrammed a key that Renault failed to do for a previous owner and was told would have to be replaced at a cost of £90. It just goes to show that even the so called experts get it wrong

I have tried your system but don't get any response at all. My car battery was flat and had to have it replaced. Since I have done this the fob doesn't operate. The light still works fine on the remote, but not on the dash. Just to clarify- I have pointed the fob at the mirror holding the fob button down, the light on the dash should flash at this point. I should then release the fob and push a further twice in thirty seconds at which point the locks should operate. If this is correct there must be something else wrong. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you get the code in correctly using the central locking button on the dash? When the final digit is input the red alarm light should stay on if this happens - start the car then stop and remove the key. PRESS THE CENTRAL LOCKING BUTTON ON DASH FOR 5 SECONDS THEN LET GO. Hold key to sensor near rear view mirror and keep pressing button till car locks and unlocks.

To check the fob - point a digital camera at the little bulb on front of the key fob (transmitter) and press the button on fob - when looking through the lcd screen you should see a faint light come on if the fob is ok.

Or put a radio on MW and press button on fob near the aerial you should hear a faint buzz if ok

well maltby if you had mentioned what year the car was and what the thing was there woudl have been no need for all this crap.

The 92 16Vs never had coded keys. If the central locking doesn't work then have a look at the recveiver int he roof for water damage. If its knackerted go down the scrappy get a car with the receiver and the scrappy men shoudl have the matchign key(s). Swap th ekey bit into the new plip key thign and job done.

Immob is via key switch which i done an article about.

I'm still confused. So I open the door and get in the car. Then what?

Stick the key in the ignition or what? Or do I press and hold the lock button on the dash for 5 secs to get it started ?

yes key in turn on the ignition enter the code then remove th ekey and plip

also you don't start the car dunno why he said that as it defeats the purpose entirely as you will need to re-enter the code
