shou8ld have a JB3 on it, if its JB1 then its a 1.4 box.
There are different JB3 boxes though but look for JB3 1st. |

yep got it its got this on it JB3091
C002663
From what you were saying before this seems right but doesnt answer the high revs, pretty sure the clutch is OK and if it was slipping it would smell bad wouldnt it?
Sorry to go on but its really bugging me |

right box. If the clutch was slipping it would do it often and wouldn't just sit 400rpm high all the time.
The clios are lower geared than the 19's and without a clio 16V handy I can't tell you what revs it should be doing.
You can if you wish stick another 5th gear on the box, its pretty easy, just need to pop the end cover off with the box in situ and get the gear off. |

I cant thank you enough mate, the idea of removing and replacing 5th gear is interesting, but cant find a reference to it in my haines.
Is it likely that this is the problem ( i know it is not easy when the cars half way across the country) Renault themselves seem totally unable to tell me
Is it a difficult job? |

If the rest of the box ratios are fine for you then replacing the 5th gear is the way to go. The haynes won't detail anything as they are pretty useless.
The black/silver end case on the bos, the tin bit is held on by 3 13mm bolts. With this removed 5th gear is exposed.
So you need to undo the nut on 1 shaft and the end bolt on the other remove the gears and replace with other 5th gears from another car.
Try asking on cliosport about what revs their cars do at the same revs, it may just be normal. |
