just buy a proper breaker bar....for now at least. ive NEVER had to use an impact wrench. your set-up probably failed because the pipe you were using was too weak. try something a bit more solid....or get yourself to your nearest toolshop and buy a breaker bar.
and mechanics are lazy...hence the impact wrench! |

fuck it if all else fails just use a scafolding bar if you have it, i used to use em when servicing 7.5 tonners.
On the torque rench thing though, firstly it aint a waste, if you want to be safe when you caning your car i.e 100mph + it is a good idea to know shit is done up right, especially on major parts i.e driveshaft nuts, crank pulley etc, and not only that but you can use certain torque renches in the wrong direction with no damage to the rench itself, designed purely for undoing hardcore nuts, check out some decent torque renches. |

i just dont fancy using my expensive torque wrench to undo rusted solid bolts requiring unknown amounts of torque when i can just use a breaker bar...if the brekaer bar breaks (doubtful as it is) then its cheaper to replace than a torque wrench.
i get a peice of wood and wedge it between the brake pedal and seat and slide the seat forward to apply the brakes |
