hello,

On my motor (clio rsi) the fixing to which the oil filter is screwed to is a black circular bit, then on the side of this black circular bit it takes 2 small coolant pipes, the metal stub to which the coolant pipe is over has corroded and is leaking coolant, anyone know how to get this cirular bit off, do i just whip off the oil filter & theres a big bolt or is it a bit harder.
does that make sense?

i left my bloody bluetooth dongle thingy back in southampton so sorry schakal no pictures till sunday night. I've stretched the pipe over the hole adequately enough to keep it going for a bit but it will need renewing soonish.

i cant imagine which pipe it might be ,but you certainly sort the leak out ,especially if its a coolant pipe . that pipe must have finished its life time and will probably split soon .

Sounds to me he is talking about the oil cooler which sits between the oil filter and block.

Normally an oil filter gets screwed onto a hollow thread pipe which feeds the oil into the filter but when you have an oil cooler installed, this slips over the hollow threaded pipe and a nut goes onto that threaded pipe which secures it in place, the oil filter then goes onto the cooler.

So it should just be one nut that holds the cooler in place, 2 clips holding the hoses onto the cooler and should be well easy to change out.

yes its the oil cooler and I'm surprised it has one. Anyway...

if its the stub on the cooler then renault want nearly 200 quid for it as the stub doesn't come out.

where the jubilee clip is, under there the metal has perished and is leaking. I've stretched the pipe over it to compensate but a new cooler is needed in the long run. 200 quid! that will wipe me out! cant i get one from a scrappy?

if you can find one in a scrappy then get it.

I personally would go for the bit of copper pipe to join the pipes method.
