depends what you want to measure!

If you still have the utter shite manifold then its gonna be no use at all on the manifold, stick it in the down pipe.

Forgot about this one

I want to measure how hot the gasses exiting the engine are! Surely no matter how crap the manifold is having the sensor there will give a better indication of that?

remember when I told you about reversions etc, well the manifolds gonna be hotter in different places.

Might be a diff of 200 degrees from one end to the other.

down pipe i reckon.....maybe just over half way down.

on a NA engine exhaust gas will be in the region of 700 deg.c but aside form the turbo itself, your lower CR will increase exhaust gas temp, as will a more retarded ignition. also fuelling will affect temp.

i take it you want to measure fuelling with it?

I want to measure "oh hello, my exhaust temp is a little high, adjust fuelling/ignition/water injection to sort it"

aye downpipe closeish to the turbo exit

As for temperature, this is a tricky area.

It should still be stock CR unless hes fitted the gay thick gasket so he won't have the usual high egr due to low CR. Its surprising how much uppign the CR can drop the temp by!

But 700 - 900 I would say is safe.

If its kicking 2grand temp wise then like stan says look at the timing/fueling.
