Do they loosen up over time? The gypo one I put in had larger fins (it still fitter mind you) and is tighter to turn by hand. The OE reno effort that came out didn’t look that bad, but it spun quite freely. |

will be tightish to turn when hew.
I assume the new pump has a cast impellar instead of the oe pressed steel effort?
The ren one should be gold in colour and open backed while a cast impeller will have fins and a closed back. |

both my old waterpump and my new one have gold cast impellers too. Im pretty sure i am the first to change the waterpump on my engine. I have seen the pressed steel type in the haynes manual though.
Maybe a phase 1/2 difference??? |

Oh I don't bloody know. New one was shiney, had some horible casting marks on the inside so I rubbed them down. The old pump did look better than the new one, the fin design I mean, but at least its a new pump and something I won't have to worry about for a while yet.
Cleaned out the hole in which it resides, wasn't much in there was expecting lots and lots of gunk etc but only had to wipe it dry. |

Gasket came off with the pump thankfully, thats because it took about an hour while watching Topgear last night to get it off the old pump with a knife. |

the oe valeo pumps have a gold coloured pressed impellar. Looks more an ornate sculpture than a pumping device.
Closed back pumps are usually cast, they look more like turbines, they are also superior.
On the old pump there will not doubt be large pits in it, this is from cavitation. |

Well lets put it this way, the old one looked like it was cast in that shape. The new one looked as if it had been cast flat and bent up into possition.... |
