the ec is drafting proposals for day time running of lights on all new cars (like they have in sweeden) and this will be retrospective ie if this becomes law any car that is being driven with out diped beam lights on, regardless of when it was first registered, will be subject to a fine! this will be law through out euope and this will include the uk. |

you can turn them off, on the older models (V reg for example) there is a switch on the light switch assembly on the facia, looks like a very small flathead screw but its a switch that disables the always on.
I discovered that when i had a V Reg V70 (it was in the manual how to turn them off)
I drive a 2004 V40 as a company car and have access to a company S60 but on these newer models they dont have the switch. |

nope no joke all new cars will have daytime running lights as standard, no probs there just means the car makers will bump up the price by a few grand because they've had to fit a couple of wires to the fuse box that will cost 1 or 2 p. But the real piss take is that when they make it retrospective every one will have to drive around with lights on or get a fine, people find it hard enough to drive at night with lights on. |

in the 9000 if you had the headlights on then turned the engine off the lights went out, so thats why you see saabs with the lights on in the day, I done it a fair few times when I had mine. |

the saab's the only car I have had where you can't put the lights on without the key! Main beam would flash thats it.
I miss my saab, I had the lovely problem of dry joints in the headlight relay, used to flash the main beam on itself and stay on, had to turn the lights off then back on, handy on country roads!
Still a dab from the soldering iron sorted it. |
