Hi again guys. Thanks for the previous help regarding my Megane 1.9d with the immobilisor/diesel pump/filings in the diesel problem. I took the car to a Renault dealer in Malaga who fitted a 2nd hand pump, flushed the diesel etc and the car came home on Friday after 4 months and 600 Euros later, hurahhhhhh.
Got in the car today and things were looking good. All the dash lights came on as usual, turned the key, nothing, not a thing. No spinning engine, no whining of the starter motor, nothing at all!!
Tried and tried about 20 times, nothing. Got under the bonnet thing to see if there was an obvious earth loose etc, couldn't see anything wrong!!
In and out of the car trying to start it, nothing.
Finally, after about 50 attempts, the thing fired as if there was nothing wrong. I drove about 60 miles without a problem. Stopped the car, tried to start it, Nothing!!
Continued to try about 3 or 4 times, it started!!
I turned it off and on about 10 times with out a problem.
I looked at the immobilisor light on the dash and there was nothing untoward happening there. I cleaned the engine yesterday with a pressure hose but had no problems following this, I also WD40d the electics after and all was fine.
Any Ideas on what the latest problem maybe. My confidence in the car is waining fast. Maybe a reluctant part exchange is coming soon |

Dear Mr Pan,
Having previously had an immobiliser fault, this doesn't look to be the same. The red light on the dash goes off and everything looks to be fine, just absolutely nothing when you turn the key.
The previous immobiliser fault had the engine spinning but just not firing. I know the part was changed on the immobilisor as I ended up with a new key fob (plipper). The central locking works fine too so the plipper battery must be ok.
Could it be an earthing fault somewhere? |

might just be the main relay, the solenoid feed to the starter on the newer cars is via a relay, might have a dry joint inside. Try tapping them whilst someone tries to start the car. |
