Hi guys,
I know it's not retro but I would have a Gordini R5 in a perfect world My Laguna is in for a service and I've just been told it has a leak around the reverse light switch (so a gearbox oil leak I'm guessing).
Wondering if anyone knows how hard it would be to replace/repair the switch/seal?
Don't really want to pay renault to do it as they quoted me a hundred hard earned monkeys. Monkeys that I don't have. |

it'll be leaking through its housing, but if your really lucky then you might get away with nipping it up.
Its near the bottom of the geabox easily seen from the passenger wheel arch, Its also green so can't be mistaken for anything else.
If you get anothe ron then swap it quickly with the passenger side as high as you can jack it you shouldn't lose any oil.
However I would say the oils original and it will need changed so drain it and put new stuff in anyway.
New oil and sender will be under 30 quid I would imagine. |

I've got a trolley jack which can get the car up pretty damned high - if I put one side up on a kerb as well I should be ok then I guess... Prolly a good idea to change the oil like you say - I put it in for a service because it's up to 96k miles now.
I used to have a 5 which had chopped GT turbo springs and higher rated dampers - had to put that up on a kerb because the factory jack didn't actually fit under the side anymore otherwise
I could have sworn last time I took it in they only charged £70 - today they said it was going to be £205! I got a brand new megane (well it's got 240 miles) as a courtesy car and it's quite nice to drive though the steering is a bit light for my liking. It's a diesel and I'm guessing a turbo diesel - no boost guage but you get plenty of power at high revs, then you shift up and get nadda
Thanks for the advice Chris, a new switch is £10.99 on eurocarparts.com - they've got a place in bristol and we've always used them for my laguna and my brother's clio. |

the new megane td's are good cars, I like the fact you can thrash them hit 120 and its still over 50mpg!
I done a guide in the tech article section about box oil changing. |

I changed mine in exactly 6 minutes, that includes receiving a text message and soaking the connector in wd40 so it stays perfectly clean.
Chris is right, you should change the oil, I got the API GL5 jug in the car parts closet waiting to go into the Laguna's box but I can't be arsed to do it. My car has 44k miles. |
