like I said my white chamade smokes that much, the exhaust is full of water. Its not leaking or has a dodgy hg.
Exhaust is full of water as its been years since its been used regularly!
That much smoke for it to be leakign anitfreeze the cooling system would be empty after 5 miles never mind 30!
Look at a kettle, theres a good few litres in that and when its boilign not much steam is given off.
Take it a longer drive, thats what I would do. Thrash it up and down a motorway, none are near to you so thats a trip in itself |

You mean to get the water out the exhaust? I took thedecat off yesterday, not much came out there, so it must be sat in the silencers. Could posibly just take the exhaust off and empty it? |

cat won't have any in it. Its running temp is about 300 degrees you know, intresting yet pointless fact 500 degrees+ is a happy temp for the lambda
Take it off and empty it, get under and gine it a good shake to see if you can hear lots of water in it. |

Lets assume for a minute that as Huw says the water level is going down, somehow that water IS getting into the engine and is the root cause of the steam. What could those causes be and how would you eliminate them?
For example, head gasket not sealed around one cylinder, would that be a case of pressure testing or have to take the head off to see which cylinder looked "cleaner" then the others because of the water?
That could be caused by headbolts not tight enough, warped / cracked head etc. What about gasket sealent stuff? Or how about some of that gasket sealent stuff you dump in the header tank lol.
What else could it be?
Get driving it Huw and see if it stays the same! |

that amount of smoke doesnt look unnormal to me...mine makes that much smoke easy...or steam i should say....for every litre of fuel u burn, u produce about a litre of water....
mines "steams" that much and over the past year i have never needed to top up the coolant..not one drop.
its not very clear as to whether the level is dropping or not. u need to top it up cold, run it, let it cool down, then chk the level...repeat this a good few times without opening it or topping it up...just to say for definate whether it is loosing water or not, but as chris says, if the HG was lettin the water out, it would be emptying FAST... i mean just with a little dribble out the back corner, i was topping up every week...so if it was going into the engine it would be gone very quickly.
done a comp test? |

Miine the same smoke on the small drive's. Clear's up after a good blast. And I only have one box on my system |

Hmm then my car is a real sweetheart because it almost never does only when cold and settled for a few days and i start her up but that's is very little on idle and when the car starts to warm up it's gone. |
