hello folks right im looking to tune my little 1.4 energy engine . just too see what i can do!!! lol plus its a nice wee insurnce friendly engine for a 18 year old!
so far ive read about and been told the following!!!
HEADWORK - works well with the car, some compinies just polish some resize valve openings or summit, some change and give all new parts fully pollish and smooth all jaggy areas!
CAM aparenlty going by my 85000 milage ive been told a new standard cam will make a big difference to my motor as by the history its not had a new one! and i think its only custom ones that can be bought as there no off the shelf!
CHIPPING - alright but only big difference and much smoother if acompanied with the head and possible cam!
THROTTLE BODY - aparently a 1.8 leguna throttle body can fit on all thats needed is the inlet manifild bore out a little and smoothed to easy flow!
heard a few estimates!
but mostly with all the above getting close to 120bhp
now this all only what ive read and rumoured!
i can build and strip down engines quite easily or at least im tool and technical minded but not actually broke a whole car engine down! im an RAF Technitian and can strip a jet engine down and rebuild with eyes shut but valve spacings and timing etc or cam and ignition!!!! u lost me lol
so just looking for rough prices and help u guys can give me!!
cheers all

Our very own Chris H does headwork on these engines, for some impressive gains. That would be my first 'port of call' (pun intended) |

I forgot to mail you back matey! Been busy!
Anyhoo 120bhp and you will be shooting down flying pigs at the base matey!
Headwork like I said is the way to go, I have had great gains from this. Ask soneji for a reference on it.
Cam if its not broke don't fix it. A new renault one is over 300 and then the rockers are 45 quid each and theres 8 of them. As for aftermarket, I wouldn't waste my time.
Chipping, or a decent chip and capable of being re-mapped you will get a gain but not much.
TB, yes the 1.8 TB will fit and if you supply me a TB along with the head they will match nicely.
With that lot your going to be in all honesty around 100bhp, maybe 105 ish.
It will be driveable though and will pull well.
120bhp in a 1.4 and remaining civilised just doesn't happen without forced induction help.
Outputs over 120bhp are possbile, 140bhp na is about the ceiling, thing is the power band is very narrow. |

its ace m8!! best ik for the 1.4 by far! the nexy best is keeping standard box with panel filter and few more cold feeds!
better pull right through the range and when i just had it and no zorst people thought it hada back box or summit!
well worth the money

Oh right cools. I've got an ITG panel filter in mine, makes a small difference, more responsive.
Want to get ideas of what mods there are to do as I'm still tempted to get a valver but my Clio is due in for some bodywork so no doubt will come back looking nice and I'll keep it and therefore get some of this stuff done, like that Hillpower IK and headwork from Chris H etc. |
