braided brake hoses

are these worth it, my mate has just added them to his G60 and reckons they are great, has anyone got them on their valver?

you won't notice any diff with them on unless of course the rubber ones are knackered and bulging.

in the world of bikes gotta have braided hoses, I guess it is the same for cars.

As you brake obviously you are forcing hyd fluid through a hose to a caliper. If that hose is rubber it will expand slightly reducing the braking effect. A steel braided hose will suffer less expansion.

Although on a bike you brake with your hand or preferably two fingers, in a car you use your foot so even if the hose flexes you are exerting more power on the lever anyway. Doesn't seem as necessary on a car when you think about it.

yeah i understand the principles, just wanted some more feed back. So i would be right in thinking that it won't improve the braking distance but will firm the pedal up and improve the response?

only if the existing hoses are knackered.

New rubber ones really don't bulge much at all. The are braided etc to prevent that happening.

Braided hoses are still rubber hoses underneath, just have braid over the top.

The braid will not stop any flex in the pipe either so there are no advantages in stopping power despite what the ads say.

The only advantage is that the pipe has a little extra protection from the elements which in my view is not worth the extra cost.

my old scirroco had braided fuel and brake hoses as standard!

If your going to change your brake lines then why not put braided on but there is no need to do it unless your doing track days then imo it is a good idea as your brakes really do take a hammering, it'll give you extra protection against damage from rubish hitting the lines in the wheel arches.

my hatch has got goodridge braided hoses, they were on it when i got it, but funnily enough i didnt know it at the time Smile

If anything the chamade's brakes are sharper, and that's with non functioning ABS in the way. The hatch's fronts do need a good bleed though.
