Well I've decided I'm gonna give it a go! After realising that the engine is the earlier pushrod 12V effort then it's 24bhp less horsepower than originally thought but still a force to be reckoned with!
Obviously I'm gonna have to research it as much as possible, and will no doubt have to call upon the intellectual services of many Retro Renault regulars, but I'm all for doing something different.
After doing the maths, a typical Williams engine goes for between £750-£1000. This equates to approximately £5-£7 per horsepower.
With the £150 V6 engine I bought, each horsepower costs 88p!
Fair enough, there will be plenty of problems to overcome but nothing ventured nothing gained as they say! |

The majority of them were Automatics, and the boxes failed on them all the time.
Personally I think your a bit mad just buying an engine for that money, the seller has made a killing! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen V6 Laguna's with Auto Boxes and more often then not full leather on ebay go for under £300 - if you view compleated items one went for £350 for example. The V6's came with all the toys - meaning there are a lot of things to sell off to lesser spec'ed Laggy owners. Would be a lot easier to buy a laggy and sell the bits off to fund the coversion - plus you can see / hear the engine running etc.

Theres one on ebay at the moment for £100 with full leather - ok its been overheating and needs a new HG but it'd probably be best to strip down and tidy up a new engine anyway.
Good luck, look forward to seeing some info in the progress reports! |
