Some pro Muppet’s had a go at my car. (OK - I’m in the S. of France, near Italy and all that lies beyond). Both front door locks, boom, in with a small tool that trashes the plastic that holds the little key follower pins, inside. Same tool on the ignition, my 12 year old car which I really like and spend a lot of time and money to keep in shape has gone.

Only it’s got a cat 2 Immobiliser that works, I still have my car.

I have theft insurance. Called them up? Got a repair truck round in 45 min. Let the mechanic hot-wire the ignition under the steering wheel, (that way if he got it wrong the insurance will fix it). Arrange that the insurance pay for new locks all-round so I have the same key. (I want to fit the locks myself as I don’t trust garage mechanics working on my old plastic door panels, does more damage than good. And I don’t mind having a look in there myself.

This happened at 3 in the afternoon in a busy shopping centre car park. Not up some dark ally at night.

The moral of this story is. Keep the alarms an immobs working. If the cars gone I would get B-all for a 1992 Ren 19 _ 16V or not. Or worse the car is found in the countryside somewhere with all the good bits missing.

Thats crap mate, I feel for you.

I always live in fear of some shit bag damaging or stealing my pride and joy. Even though its not financially valuable necessarily, in personal terms, your car can be priceless. Woe betide anyone whom I catch trying anything untoward with my car.

On a similar subject, is it possible to wire up the existing crappy Reno immobiliser to arm/disarm when you lock/unlock the doors with the plip? I used to turn it on and off but it's a pain in the neck and I don't any more!

i had the original immobilser bypassed for my clifford alarm/immobiliser and good authourity from the alarm place that they have done this hundreds of times before and its not a problem. that is intill i disconnected the battery to fit my amps i even rang them to make sure this was ok to do and they agreed it should be fine as long as i put it in valet mode. to cut a long story short when i put the batt back on the original immobilser cut back in and i couldnt start the car. the alarm place reset it. i asked them what to do if i needed to disconect the bat again and they simply said "dont". i wasnt happy about that, after threats of trading standards they fit an extra switch so i can arm/disarm the original immobiliser whenever i want. so it can be done but its hassle!

both my R19's have cat 2 immoblisers on them.

I'm not even sure if the standard one works on my ph2 lol.
there is 2 key switches on it, one in the cabin and one in the engine bay next to the battery, that one turns the siren on/off and the one inside the cabin turns the alarm on/off, but having played with them i've come to the conclusion they dont work lol. apparently when u plip the indicators are meant to flash but mine dont. anyway they are both switched ON just in case they do work if some toerag wants to try to take it.

the ph1 is immobile at the mo anyway, no gearbox in it hehe

I know the immobiliser does work from the times that I've forgotten that it was turned on Mad . It's just a hassle turning it on and off using the key!

The alarm on my Clio has never even gone off, even left a gap in the window and touched the sensors, nothing Sad

Just ended up turning it off.

Mine has a stick thing I touch on a small square plastic block before starting. Has a red LED that has to go out to start. Cut's out the starter and the fuel pump I think.

Came with the car. I have a bill saying it was fitted by a Renault garage two years after the car was first registered.

The original Renault one with the key must be a pain.

I'm thinking of getting a club thing that fits to the steering wheel, but I'm not sure I'll use it. Feel a bit of a twat sticking it on every time.

But at least the f-wits can see it from out side the car, probaly know how to get it off in 15 seconds as well.

so often i have thought about disconnecting the keyhole on the doors from the mech, so if someone does ram a screwdriver in there it wont open the locks when turned...but u can bet ur arse the day i do that ill be out somewhere and the batt will go in the key fob and i wont be able to get in!
