hey, checked my rear brakes tother day after being out for a blast and say that they were quite rusty. Thought that this was strange because thought that when you use the breaks the rust would be swept away.

This has led me to believe (although need to check today) that the calipers have seized! how easy is it to DIY replace these, been told that they contain bearings or something which complicates the situation.

also whats the chance that because they have seized that im going to need new pads and discs? will the seizing have knackered them??

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Have you actually looked at the pads? have they got much (any) life left in them?

have you looked a the discs? are they scored?

Does the handbrake hold? im guessing not.

if the sliders are stuck you can free them up, just take the pads out and try and move the caliper back and forth on its sliders, pull back the boots and grease em up.

Update!!

right had the wheels off this morning and had a good look at the breaks! The pads look fine and look like they still have a lot of wear in them!
The discs have started to be cleaned but its only the inner half of the disc. The outer section is still rusted up. What woudl cause this? knackered calipers?

Calipers havnt seized becasue handbrake is still working and holding.

Lost!!!

Any help, much appreciated!

sticky sliders.

What to do it is pop the sliders, clean em grease them up then sand the disc back down to shiny metal. If its rusty and not just surface rust it will never clear by brakign alone.

They could also probably do with a bleed.
