well the battery is now off and on charge, pulled the heat sheilds from around the starter motor to check connections and they are all ok.
jesus that 3rd bolt for the starter motor heat sheild under the exhaust manifold is in an awkward place, ending up taking the wheel off and getting it off from under the car.

left the sheild off for the mo in case its the starter motor fecked.

any ideas Chris H?

considering the car was spot on yesterday, started first time every time, stopped on way home from neals twice and it started fine, just been left overnight and this morning nothing.

Neo, it gets better.

i think i have passed the jinx onto you mate.

Went outside to look at the car today, parked the hatch alongside and set up the jump leads. My spare ECU was already in the car from yesterday. I put the key in and instead of a flashing ECU light i get a solid one, ok lets try it anyway. I crank the engine over and it starts straight up on the button, and settles to a perfect idle. The ECU light goes out. Again and again it starts perfectly. The ECU light is now on solid with the ignition but goes out when the engine is running.

It works now, typical. Sods law but OK I can live with that, at least its working.

Next up, compression test, the results of which are as follows..

cylinder 1: 215psi
cylinder 2: 210psi
cylinder 3: 200psi
cylinder 4: 215psi

So not perfect, but well within 10% difference and nothing drastically obvious is wrong. Spark plugs show no signs of fouling.

So i decide sod it, test drive. Its still sluggish and makes a lot of noise about doing very little when pushed over 4k. When i parked up again it doesnt look like theres any more oil escaped.

Confused

lol how random is that, glad its going again, mine wont even turn the starter motor!

gonna try bump starting it later when a mate pops over, if it goes on a bump then at least it narrows mine down to the starter motor and then i'll swap over the one from the ph1 to the ph2.

my poor ph1 keeps donating parts to the ph2 lol

Neal, could your problem be something to do with the clutch slipping? I spoze it'd be shit for pulling away and changing gear tho if there was something wrong with the clutch. Hmm I dunno. I am thick, maybe I should stay out of this lol

Neal is it possible one of the engine sensors is down and the ECU is working in downgrade mode?

yes that thought did cross our minds, and we checked them all for contamination. Could still be broken down, but not visibly though, ill swap them for my spares and see if it helps.
