Hi, could anyone please tell me where the ICV is located on the 1.6e megane lump. also wha does it look like?
My car is idling very erratically. some days it will idle at 1600rpm, other at 900. also it never idles at a constant speed, its almost as if the idles 'bouncing' if that makes sense? so im presuming the ICV needs cleaning out? Any help will be muchly appreciated |

done a search for that post and it was about the megane u bought right? u mention the ICV but dont say where it is. Anyway, ive searched for in the engine bay and it looks like it connects to the side of the throttle body? but where this should be theres just a metal plate covering the hole. do u know why this is?
Also when i take the TB off will i need to replace the gasket with a new one?
BTW, the engine is in a clio, not a megane, conversion done by hill power. |

if its not there then the ECU light will be on all the time and the car will have no idle speed regulation which means everytime you press the clutch the engine will stall.
So its there or you have the above symptoms. |

if i had the camera at the moment i would take a picture to show you that where its supposed to be is just a metal plate screwed in to cover the hole. there is no ICV there, the ECU light isnt on, and the engine doesnt stall every time i press the clutch although i do have trouble sometimes with it reving low, but not very often. hence why i asked where it was in the first place. could anything else have been used instead of an ICV to regulate the idle speed? |

so how does the car idle then? does the car originally being a 1.4RT clio make a difference? |

so if the engines using the SPI system them there wouldnt be an ICV? i can assure you theres no ICV where it should be, just a metal plate.
How do you tell if its SPI or MPI? what do i need to look for to tell the differences. sorry for all the questions, as uve most probably guessed by now im not exactly clued up when it comes to engines! |

if its SPI then it does have an ICV, its a stepper motor on the side of the throttle body.
SPI would have had to use the clios setup and MPI would have retained the megane efi system.
If its a megane conversion then it will have the megane efi (as you would be stupid to bin it for SPI) and it will be running the megane setup unless some retard has made up a new engine loom and left the ICV out of it then mapped some ECU to suit.
But it would still cut out everytime the clutch was pressed. |

well the conversion was done at hillpower which ive only ever heard good things about? the car has had a remap though as it now runs on a luminition ECU. the car sometimes cuts out about 5 seconds after being started but thats the only time it will cut out. took the TB off yesterday and tried to get the metal plate off to see if anythings underneath but it would budge, tried sprayin it with wd40, still wouldnt move. i take it the only way to get it off is to drill the two screw out? |

right so hes done it that way, not very clever.
to sort out the occasional cut out it needs the map tweaked.
but hes made a new loom for it and theres no ICV so the throttle plate is more open than normal to prevent stalling.
far from ideal but it does the job. |
