How long could I get out of my exhaust if I patch it??? It's rusted almost all the way thru, all the way round just behind the silencer . |

Mine had rotted away just before it joins the middle silencer, i've just used one of those holts patching kits on it, looks quite decent. |

I think its called Holts Gun Gum flexi wrap, they make one for straight bits of pipe and for joins. Got mine from halfords today for 4.99. True test will be at its MOT in a few days |

depends how far gone it is really, you cant weld to rust, so if its really bad, it would need some new metal welded around, bit of hassle... |

It's not that bad, not widespread just one little bit of the pipe about maybe an inch or less thick! I will replace the back section as soon as I can afford it. Brakes are number 1 priority at the mo! |

there is alway a way, iv done loads of them, somtimes using exausts off other cars, its alot cheaper than buying a new one.
the money you save on a new exaust will alow you to buy a new welder maintaining exausts for a long time |

Well, I made a trip to the scrappy yesterday only to find it closes half day on a Saturday!!! The Exhaust has now broken completely and so after finding the scrappy shut the back box was removed!
Today well, what can I say except ffs!!!! The leak I thought I'd sorted proved that I didn't in fact sort it, if anything it's worse!!! So for now there is a stategically placed tupperware dish under it and hopefully it will be dry tommorrow and I'll get the step ladders out and try and find the source The water is coming in at the drivers side under the trim at the top of the back window (have taken the trim off and there are little joins at either side, thats where the water is getting in), big drips coming fast and of course it has to be chucking it down today
Needless to say the car has not been called anything nice in the last couple of days! The only good thing that has happended is after having another go at getting the instrument panel out again yesterday - unsuccessfully - the sidelight light has started working again |

Thanks David, well finally got the exhaust today from the scrappy (they'd gone and stuck the car on top of another R19!!! There are now 4 in that Scrappy, 1 Ph1 and 3 Ph2's (all hatchbacks, 2 diesel, 2 petrol)! Extremely helpful ex-hubby took the remains of the old back box off with the angle grinder then I put the new one on!
Yay, car sounds like a car again and it's amazing how much power it had lost with the back box missing I hadn't realised until the almost new one (still has a label on ) went on today just how powerful the car can be - for a bog standard diesel! |
