On my 16v, does the metal rear 'parcel' shelf provide any structural rigidity?
Or is it just there as the shelf?

I'd imagine it does provide some rigidity but isn't needed. hatch is ok without but doesn't handle as well as the chammy |

lol fat birds in the back help structure? lol there are metal braces in the parcel shelf but thats to stop it folding in on itself |

The parcel shelf and the rear screen are what stiffens up the chamades shell.
So yes to an extent. |

thats prolly why they used em in the btcc cus it was a stiffer shell. or the regs stated it had to have 4 doors maybe

The shells actually a good bit stiffer it would seem.
Going into my driveway the hatch would go on 3 wheels a bit, the chamade lifst the wheel a good 6 inches.
Windscreens and rear screens give a lot of strength to a shell. If you ever see a hatch without the rear screen it flops allover the place. |
