Hello!
I fianlly have my car up and running after an engine change, a new clutch and a new exhaust (after the other one was so rusty is fell apart  )
Anyhow, what I want to know is when does that white fan thing in front of the radiator come on?
I bought the car as spares or repair off eBay because the HG had blown, only for £25 and now I've spent some money on him I'm a bit paranoid now of anything happeneing to him like this HG going or something  is there any warning signs to look out for or anything?
The clocks in the car only have mileage and petrol -No temperature guage which I think is a bit daft  how the hell are you supposed to know if it is overheating?!
Anyhow, anyone got any clocks off an RT they want to sell? The ones with the mileage on one side and the rev counter on the other.

well the fan kicks in around 90 degrees.
Which if you had a gauge is the 3rd line.
Start it let it run, touch the rad avoiding the fan, when its all hot the fan will kick in.
If the light comes on but the fans not on turn the heater on full heat and take the car out to cool it down, don't just turn it off. |

Blimet ! That was quick!
Last night after the new exhaust was put on we left it ticking over on the drive for about 40 minutes, the light on the dash came on after about 35 mins, but the fan didn't come on.
We switched the engine off, then immediatley took it out driving for about 30 minutes, the light was on at first but it went off quite soon afterwards, obviously don't know if that fan came on or not.
Shall I go and let it run for a bit on the drive - the sun is shining directly onto the bonnet atm?
I'm only worried because I am only an amatuer 
At least the drive shafts didn't fall off or the gearbox didn't fall out when test running it |

well the light should never have came on so the fans not working.
The next question is why is the fan not working?
The next question is what can cause the fan not to work?
The next question is, I'm hungry where should I go for lunch?
Anyway did you fit a new thermostat when you done the gasket?
Does the radiator get hot when the engines running?
Does the fan come on if you remove the fan switch plug connector on the radiator and stick a paper clip in it? |

I never did the HG, the local scrappy man put me in a new engine (supposedly) so don't know about the thermostat. Don't know if the radiator gets hot
I will go and run the engine for a bit see what's happening.
As for lunch, go and get a Subway  |

you see AMber took me for a subway and I thought it was terrible, gregs is better.
Dunno if I want somethign warm or not.
Anyway get a new thermostat in there asap as the one in there is who knows how old and it will kill the engine if its stickign etc.
The fact its coolign down when driving is a good sign but for 3 quid its not worth risking! |

The engine is running, and the radiator is warm, although not red hot. Will leave it for a bit longer see if the fan does kick in. Just looked at the Haynes and the jobs seem easy enough even for me
