Hi, I am new to this site, but am well impressed with all the info contained within, however,I am going to have to ask a question about the dreaded immobiliser again!.
I have a 96 'guna RT,usaul problem with the key losing sync,I have read and re-read the tech article which is based on a megane, but to no avail can I find any number in the key, only on the p.c.b.of the key,is this the one I need to take to renault,or can they tell from the vin details?.I have read elsewhere that the number is on the e.c.u,in the form of a 5 digit number starting with 0 which I have found.
I then presume once armed with a 4-digit code I use the central locking button by the handbrake to continue as per the article.
Sorry to bring this topic up again, but as anyone who has suffered it ,it is very ,very frustrating, and renault dealers are less than helpful when the car is stuck in an awkward place for a while.
Many many thanks for any help. |

it should be the same as for the meganes.
Also its a bit of a changeover point, my sisters laguna dones't have the number in either of the keys so its the earlier plip setup where its not a rollign code.
Have you made sure the batteries are good and the receiver isn't soaked in water? |

Hi, thanks for the answer,I should have said that this key failed a while ago ,due to the batteries dying, new ones have been fitted, and that did'nt work, ater being quoted the small fortune by renault, I carried on with just one key, whilst putting the failed one ,'on the to do list'.unfortunatley this key was lost ,which is what has prompted me to find a solution,up until sat night the other key was working fine, but was in my wife's handbag when it was stolen!.
You referred to the earlier plip method,I must have missed that one ,could you please explain what that is please, many thanks again. |

Hi, also a new user with 95 Laguna rt - immobiliser probs.
I have earlier version and have the key code and overide code from renault.
i will try to remedy my problem tonight as the car is dead outside my house.
I have seen the various mentions of the key sync but could not access???
Does any one know how the immobiliser works ie :what does it immobilise?
fuel pump? ignition? ECU ? |

immobilises the ECU.
It will still crank over when immobilised.
Also make sure the battery connections are good and tight. |

I `ve tried all the earths and battery connections fuses etc.
So presumably it does not supply power to the ECU for it to fire injectors??
There is ignition supply and the fuel pump operates so if the above is true then by giving the ECU a 12 v ignition feed it should bypass the immobiliser and enable the engine to start. |

righty you have th ecode. What version is th ecar?
Does it have a trip comp? If so the code is put in via the wiper stalk button.
If no trip comp then just via the central locking button.
Is it the coil pack engine or the dizzy lump?
What engine is it exactly? |

it is the engine with the distributor and no trip computer, central locking button button with no led.
I have spoken to a friendly renault dealer and they tell me that the code is entered via the wiper stalk with the accelerator pedal pressed down and then released and re-pressed for the next digit.
I wonder if the Megane re-sync process can be used rather than going to renault ?? |

Hi guys, since I last looked at the site,I have visited a renault dealer to obtain the code,They did'nt give me too much hassle, especially as I blagged it a bit,and gave them the impression that I knew exactly what I was talking about,My 'guna is 96(P) and the door code is printed on the p.c.b. inside the plip.I also found it on the original service book. They gave me two codes,I can't get any joy with code 1,but code 2 certainly gets the car started, but as yet no luck with re-syncing the key,I intend to try fresh batteries in the plip. However after reading about someone elses car maybe code 2 is just an over ride,so I will have another bash with the other code to re sync the key.
many thanks again,as I can at least use the car at the moment. The only other thing was I took my logbook,a utility bill and passport to the dealers, they would'nt part with the code with out I.D.-fair enough I suppose. |

After reading pete's reply,I once again tried to use code 1 as supplied by my dealer, the car doesn't like it after attempting to input the code after the final digit, the sevice light flashes along with the white elec symbol on the dash, then the ECU appears to lock me out,as it won't allow any more attempts for a while, the central locking light won't go out when depressed after switching on the ignition.
Will try new batteries in plip, and am also attempting to source a 2nd hand plip.Good tip to see if plip working at all is to veiw the emiter through a phone/digital camera,it will show up when you plip away. |

i managed to tow the car to a dealer last saturday. They hooked it up to the magic box of tricks and managed to get in the overide code,
Engine starts !!!!!!
Unfortunatly they cnnot get the code out to re-synchronise the plip.
No immo and no central locking
Have to buy new plips(£90 for 2) and de-coder (£90) plus labour and vat
Grand total of around £400.
The car is not worth much more.
Will decide what to do as is only runabout to work and back. |
