Sweeeet.
My dad had a few of these back in the late 80s... including one in full martini rally livery.
Twas a beast alright.
Dont know what reliability is like, but it cant be any worse than a valver... |

Aye they're quick alright, won't be on the road for a while yet tho.
They're no more unreliable than a valver but then somethin breaks you can't log on to andyspares and get the bits delivered for a few quid! |

Yeah, could be unpleasant in that respect, but Desira should be able to supply most mechanical bits, from the Lancia Dedra, Fiat Tipo 16v, Alfa 155, Fiat Coupe etc.
Engine is common across them all i think, albeit in slightly different forms. |

Right, story is that i got it as a now runner. The crank decided to quit suicide after a bout of depression caused by a lack of oil.
Theres a new crank on order along with shells and a set of rings.
Rods are fairly cheap too so i might stick a set of those in to save wastin time gettin the original ones checked for ovality(that a new word? lol)
Gonna do the clutch and belts/tensioners while its stripped as both are an engine out job so not worth the risk.
The only things i've found so far to be 'above average' price wise are the belts. Even the crank was a helluva lot cheaper than i've seen renault ones for |

Ovality is a word.

Lampredi i believe |
Yep! This engine was used across most of the fiat group range in various forms, and has evolved from the original 1960s design by Aurelio Lampredi.
Its got twin contra rotating balancer shafts (secondary couple forces and all that) as now used by mitsubishi, though most people tend to lock them off as they sap power. |

ahh balancer shafts, the only real way to make a 4 pot perfectly smooth.
The cosworth designed ford galaxy balancer shafts in the sump are most impressive.
main prob with the balancer shafts are weight, they sap the power and the belts break and throw the cambelts. |

So i guess the 5 is out the window now!
I know alot of good sources here in Italy if you're looking for bits standard or high performance for the Lancia.
