After a recent semi thrashing, the oil pressure guage on my '95 19 16v exec has dropped. It used to run right at the top, dropping to 1/2 to 3/4 at idle. It now runs at 1/2 to 3/4, dropping to 1/4 at idle.
Just had it serviced to see if that would make a difference and it didn't. Any ideas on why this has happened?
Cheers

are we talkin hot or cold? obviously they run higher when cold and lower when warm?
if it is a drop in pressure, cud be a blockage in the pick up, or stuck relief valve in the pump... |

Cheers for the reply.
This is when the engine is hot, but the pressure is also lower than before when cold. I just want to make sure that it's nothing serious - that I haven't damaged anything.

the pressure will drop when the engine is warm as the oil gets thinner when warm, how low does the pressure read?
You asked this question on the infinicar forum didnt you?

'Twas me - cheers for the tip!
The pressure has always dropped as the enginge has got warmer, it just drops lower now than it used to. Min used to be half way when hot, min now 1/4 when hot. It just seems odd that it happened after a bit of a trash, cos up till then the pressure was constantly high.

tbh the gauges arent that reliable...wuite often they just don't work...mine only works half the time...when it doesnt work it just sits low down the bottom. |
