Hi Guys,
Just looked back over the 19's history to see when i have to change the cam belt.
The last time it was done was in December '97 at 100398 miles.
It has now done 135889 miles. Nearly 7 Years on.
Does it need doing??
If i get it done, how much roughlt will it cost me (i know there not cheap)
Cheers

I am assuming no power steering?
If no PS it makes the job a lot easier. I can maange it in 20 mins these days.
Theres loads of room to do it and its very simple. The longest bit it actually cleaning up any oily mess thats about.
A belt is about 15 quid.
A belt kit from renault which includes a new tensioner is about 60 quid which is recomended as it will still be on the original tensioner. Also a water pump around 15 quid would also be a good idea.
Anyway A garage would charge about an hours labour for a belt change, or they should, its very easy.
If changing the water pump then add another half hour max onto that. |

Thats correct, no power steering.
Why do i need a new water pump?
How much do a garage charge for an hour then? (£10/£100???)
Cheers for the help
Ben
P.s Whats wrong with Silver? I have been told that they are rare. |

I never said you needed a new water pump i merely recommended it.
The cambelt runs the water pump and the tensioner, If either fail (and they do) then the engine will end up scrap depending on how fast your going.
Depends on the garage, average is about 30/40 an hour at independants, main dealers can be a ton plus dependign on the marquee.
Silver is rare and Jonny was taking the proverbial. |
