I went over to a mate who works with renault on the other side of the country to get a goodworking ICV today. I got that and we put it on right away in the darn heet (38 celsius). The problem still there so while he was checking everything and i was drinking beer he said my TPS is fucked. He checked that by moving the TPS arm downward while the engine idling and nothing happened. He said it should overfuel immediatly and shut down?? This right? is my TPS fucked?? I do trust him on it. But still i would like to be on the safe side here cause those damn renault buggers want 110,- euro for it (it seems as i have this problem since i bought the car over a year ago (check my post on rsc) that it's fucked a long time already!) |

No it shouldnt overfuel and shut down, its a speed-density based system, the TPS is used for acceleration enrichment. If you think it might be buggered, get a multimeter on it. |

it will normally cut out when you push the TPS arm down. Or at least run badly and nearly cut out.
Its speed density based but primary input is from the throttle plate. |

I managed to get mine wedged at wot (I mean what really) for ages once and it ran but just pretty rough, like lumpy idle (more than normal) and would cut out very easily while driving and putting the clutch in. etc |

TPS is throttle position sensor right?
On my opel it cut out right away and wouldnt even start when the TPS was
broken in it. To keep it running i had to start the car and keep accelerating or otherwise it would cut out again.
Managed to drive home one night like that
And the next day all i needed to do was clean the TPS sensor and TPS plate and intake pipe with carb cleaner. It ran like new after that.
The beforemath of this adventure was rough idling and powerloss when accelerating.
Why doesnt this happen in the Renault? Maybe not the same problem? |

on opels etc there run MAF sensors, and different managment systems (typically bosch). |

It’s a can of worms.
I went – new ICV no change
Second hand TPS idle good for a few days, shit starts again.
Unplugged the Lambda sensor, idle good for two days, shit starts again.
New Lambda sensor, no change.
Now mine idled OK from starting but if I revved the engine over 4500 it idled high.
On a French Clio 16V site they said this is the Speedo cable’s hall sensor, (road speed sensor), white bit on the dash end of the cable. (Thinking back, I’d changed a bulb behind the dash about the time this started).
Chris H thought it was the RSS and we went through all the ground wires, no change.
Ended up removing the cable from behind the Speedo. Carefully removing the white plastic cover, and pushing a small black thing that looks like a transistor a bit closer to the cable. Problem solved.
Left hand & right hand drive cars must have different cables, but it seems all the sensors are inter-linked by common ground wires or something. So a bad signal from one will upset the others.
Good luck. |
