Guys, topped the car up with oil lastnight and just checked it thismorning and it's about 1mm above the MAX level on the dipstick. Doh! I'm assuming this is not too much of a problem though? My dad's bangin on about I am gonna blow my piston rings etc.....ra ra raaa......and he is probably right if I extremely overfill it. But just 1mm? Or is that enough to cause problems? |

blah blah. it'll be fine.
Youre meant to check the oil level with the car stopped for a few minutes after running anyway so if you check it cold in the morning, all the oil will be in the sump, not distributed around the engine, making the level higher. |

Oh. I thought you were meant to check it when it was cold and hadn't been used for while so all the oil is in the sump and not distributed around the engine? Why would you wanna top it up to MAX when some oil is up in the engine? So then it all comes down after a while and then be quite overfilled?
So with your method of checking oil it would be normal for the level to be slightly over the MAX on the dipstick when it's been stood for a while. That's good enough for me |

when cold (left standing overnight, left 10 mins etc) oil that will drain back has drained back.
So check the level.
you want to be between the min and max mark, I like it to sit about halfway.
I argue less windage problems with a lesser filled sump. |

oil getting picked up by the crank and gettign pumped between the cyls as the piston descends.
Also get surge problems through breathers etc with high oil levels. |
