Having an ongoing debate wiht the muppets at my local garage.
Basicalyl they fitted a non OE centre section to my mother's car, nothing wrong wiht that, apart from they ahve had 3 attempts at fitting it and fucked up every single one.
They fit it and the sleeve that joins the back box to centre section has just one nut cplaming the two bits of pipe, no exhaust clamps. She comes home and after driving aorund for a few dasy gets me to look at it, its rattling on the rear beam (std car in every way), and blowing very badley from the joint.
Anyway she takes it back and they have another go, this time they say the piep is slipping out of the sleeve and so put a couple of spots of weld on each end, i look at it last nghiht for her as its rattling again, clearence on the rear bean is ok, how ever its still blowing, she goes out in it last night and is sayign its rattling worse then ever, have a look today and its actually touching the rear beam and has slipped out of the sleeve about 1/2".
She takes it back again today, i come along this time and they say they will fix it, i give them 3 possible things they can do to fix it 1) get a proper joiner which has a flaired end each end and exhaust clamp each end, cut slits in the current sleev and mod it and clamp it each end, or just mod the sleave and clamp it each end.
She comes back tonight wiht it and they tell her they have filled the join wiht exhzuast putty and welded all around it, i go and have a look and they have smeared exhaust putty round it and thats it, oh and you put your hand over the end of the exhaust pipe and its still blowing as badley as ever.
They recon this sleeve is the std renault one, but yet there was no problems on the last centre section, and i can't see that this design woudl actually work, so a quaetion to anyone who has a megane around T reg is how do they usually attach the centre section to the back box?
She won't let me go down wiht the car tomorrow and lay inot them |

the renault sleeves can be a bit shite. volkswagon, skoda do sleeves as well. there do various sizes and they will fit renault systems. the sleeves have two bolts and are just generally more robust. i use them a lot. there cheaper than renault sleeves as well. |

what Jay said, its a joke the ren sleeve. Simons 2l 16V had this, kept failing, so he got the VW one still kept failing, then they stuck a bar between the 2 clamsp to prevent them moving away.
I said get them to weld it which they will not do. his problem not mine.
Anyway as standard the exhaust comes in 1 piece from the cat back, it needs cut to fit a replacement section in.
I would get it welded, you can do it, you make de-cats, 2 blobs of weld ain't hard! |

I did away with the standard sleeves in favour of a decent universal job and all seems to be fine at the moment with no leaks but I did also use a sealant on each joint. I know that knocking can occur though if the muppets don't fit the backbox correctly when it passes over the rear beam. The exhaust that came off of Leanne's 19 had been severely battered to make it fit... fooking animals which is why i've given up with garages now as a whole. |

After looking at the std sleeve i think i can butcher it to accept a couple of exhaust clamps each end.
