Newbie saying hello

Hi, I found this site from www.renault5forum.com and I thought that I would have a little look around. There is a question that I would like to ask though.

Is there anyone here who owns a Renault 5 Gordini/Alpine Turbo?

If so could you please pm me as there are a few questions I would like to ask.

The reason is that I have sold my Audi S3 as I never used it and it was costing a furtune (the most expensive garden ornament I have ever had) and I am in the process of buying a Gordini Turbo as a toy and I have to make my decision by the weekend as I will have to arrange to get to France to pick it up. So any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am really looking for Gordini Turbo owners, as I feel I would be a little left out by the GT Turbo

You're best bet is to just ask away.

You will struggle to find a more knowledgeable group of people on the net, especially when it comes to Renaults.

What do I need to do to be able to run a 1984 Gordini Turbo on unleaded as in france they still have 4 star?

Will I be able to keep the car registered in France, but insure it through an English insurance company?

Is there anywhere in the UK where I can obtain parts for the above car, ie headlights, speedo, rear fog light?

Three to start with. I am sure there will be plenty more.

to run a gordini on unleaded it should only need the timing reset, its an ally head and has valve inserts as standard, should run on it no bother.

Not sure if you will be able to keep it registered in France.
If you did you will only be able to use the car in this country for a maximum of 6 months.
To do this you would also require a French MOT and French tax.

It would be easier to get it registered over here, as long as you have all the appropriate documents.

The car has a french mot and tax for a year, and I have an address to register it to, but the problem comes when you wish to insure it. So it will be registered in the UK and in the meantime I will be running it on the company trade plates.

No pictures as of yet, but the car is now in England. Here is the story if you can be bothered to read it: -

I need a car, a cheap run around as I had sold my Audi S3, so I thought something like a Fiesta or something like that. Anyhow after a night in the pub I had the brainwave of buying a Gordini Turbo. I searched the UK but nothing, so I started looking in France. I came across this one. E-Mailed the guy and it seemed to be the car I was looking for as I wanted the red interior.

Anyhow I asked him to hold it as I needed to arrange time to go and see/collect it. He agreed lest weekend but would only hold it for 1 week which was fair considering that he was a little sceptical if a Brit buying a French car.

So on Saturday 6th August after work I caught the Eurostar to Parris and stayed the night, and then got the first train to Nantes. I saw the car and it was everythin he had described. I was a little nervous buying a car over the internet such as this but he was an honest chap who detailed all the faults. I managed to get a little discount and we shook hands and I was the proud ownrt of a Renault 5 Alpine Turbo.

In the paperwork there is a full service history, all bills and reciepts (excluding the paintwork) and after having a quick chat I departed on the 450 mile trip.

The car was fantastic. I started of taking it easy, but it wasn't long before it was obvious that the car could take a lot more, so I ended up driving at 80 mph most of the way to Bolougne to catch the ferry. It was funny being able to shock people out of roundabouts in a car that was alnost the same age as some of the drivers, and on the route home I got lots of thumbs up signs and flashes (not speed cameras I hope)

I arrived at Bologne very early for the 00.30 sailing thismorning, so I got some dinner. hen I returned to the car there was a crowd of about 15 people around it. I wondered what had happened, but when I got closer they were having a good look at it. So I arrived home at 3am this morning and I am absolutely shattered but I have a grin on my face from ear to ear.

However today not much work will happen, as I will be cleaning it up ang givining it a good polish to show the doubting and p**s taking freinds what a beauty she is.
