id like to know more...i get the idea of using ur foot to apply both brake and throttle at the same time, but why would you do this? Is it to simply blip the throttle while gear changing and braking? is that necessary?
discussion time!
cheers

There was a video on RSC ages ago, with some Jap guy showing you exactly how to do it and what it meant. I couldn't make any tale of it though. Mind you was probably pissed or something at the time. |

been readin a bit more...its somethign to do with gettin the engine speed up to the right rpm for the selected lower gear so that when clutch is engaged u dont get engine braking effect and also less stress on the transmission.
think it is more related to RWD and then AWD with FWD being rather unnecessary other than the stress thing |

you press the brake with the toes of your foot (well the ball technically but the toe end) and then swivel your foot through 45 degrees so you can catch the throttle with your heel.
Not needed since synchro came on the scene, will indeed mreduce stress and make driving a lot smoother if you do it. Also allows nice and smooth clutchless gearchanges. |

when u used to have to double declutch? that sounded horrible..glad i never had to bother with that...
why would u do a clutchless gearchange? busted cable or some other reason?
any thoughts on left foot braking? i hear it can be used during a turn when u have power down but feel u may be loosin it a bit, ie understeer settin in...apply bit of brake at same time makes the nose dip a bit increasing the grip to the drivin wheels...helpin to pull it back in the direction u want to go...
i only ever used my left foot once......SCREEECHH!!!!! HAHAHA
oh and also in a auto...bizarre been driving hundreads of miles fine then was just in autopilot i guess and wen to put the clutch down DOH! |

I still double de-clutch if the synchros playing up, not a problem then.
Busted cable, I impressed Mark (Chamadyelook) with my drive in traffic etc with a snapped clutch cable. Also when your to lazy to use the clutch. Drive in 3rd like when accelerating up to 30mph then foot off the accelerator and pull the stick back to forth, not to slow or the revs drop. Beast gear to start with, its simple.
left foot I never do. It does work but tbh if you need it then you were not prepared for the corner. The problem is not stamping on the pedal and the very much increased risk of terminal oversteer backwards into a hedge.
I have done the forgot I was in an auto and pressed the clutch pedal trick. |

I sometimes try to "heel and toe" while braking and downshifting, i.e. get the revs up before de-clutching.
but then I also overshift, i.e. accelerate in 2nd or 3rd gear and then go straigh to 4th or 5th only do this while driving in town.
heel and toe is really better suited for cars with standing pedals.
I do left brake when I'm in auto cars, works good. you also do this when driving go-karts, so there's no real problem involved for me. |
