Picked up a 1.4 Ph1 19 on a J plate. No tax or MOT but it was free, so im not complaining. The plan is to fix it up and give it to my sister to replace her old 205.
Its a 1.4 Energy, carb not efi (what engine code is this and bhp?). Not really sure where to begin with this one seeing as i've only worked on 1.8's and TD's so if anyone has any pointers i'd be most greatful.
One thing I did notice is that there's a slight whine when revved from around the cambelt area. Isn't the waterpump on these driver by the cam as im thinking it might be the bearings on that?.
Cheers

Carb'd Energy will be an E6J and have 80bhp.
Whine could be anything, I'd suspect wheel bearing first! |

Well you didn't say that in the original post now did you!
If I was to have a wild stab in the dark I'd say the timing belt tensioner.... |

water pumps driven off the cambelt, get a cambelt kit and a new water pump! Easy jobs and well worth doing. |

Aye, cambelt on that looks like a walk in the park compared to the 16v
Ben: Common sense my lad, since when do you rev a car while moving ? |

whip the airbox off and shove *some* Redex down into the carb while the engine is running and revving a bit worked a treat on the 323 and me mates polo Failing that, a couple of squirts of Carb Cleaner will help similarly too |
