my cambelt snapped tonight on my D7F (1.2 8v), didnt sound brutal (not like i expected)
really just looking for a list of things to check (never even had the head off of that engine), and things that might need replaced - as i want an idea of price before i start removing the head etc
thanks in advance. |

Cambelt
Valve grinding paste
Alot of patience

was doing around 40, dipped the clutch as soon as the engine clicked and the dials dropped, and switched the engine off and hoped for the best.
so it's just valves really that are likely needing replaced? |

Outside chance you've not done any damage, could just stick a new belt on and try it. |

bent valves. if you done it proper, holed pistons, cracked head, cracked rockers and cam. |

When it comes down to it mate just ask this, have I got all the tools required for the job and can I realy afford to cock it up?
If you don't and can't then you may want as cheap a solution as possible with the minimal amount of work, so why not get another head from the scrappies.
head shouldn't cost you any more than 60 - 70 (depending where you look) and then it's just a matter of getting a new cam belt and head gasket and if you've not got one, a torque rench, cheap as chips!
may not be everyones solution but I found it to be the cheapest option, (specialy if you can get a good head off e-bay for 20quid) |

i've removed the inlet manifold, fuel rail and injectors, TB, airbox, etc etc and the inlet valves look ok from what i can see. Still to open up and have a look, but so far things are looking ok.
If the worst comes to the worst, and valves are bent, i might just get a new head, but it depends on the damage.
Cheers for the info guys |

worst case scenario, swap out the whole engine . .
thats what i had to do when my cambelt snapped, got the head off to replace it with another and found my cylinder block had also cracked . .
was not impressed lol |

checked all the valves and none of them are bent, and there doesnt seem to be any other damage.
So my question is, is it just a case of getting a new belt, and lining the marks on the belt up then tensioning the belt? |
