I was quoted £1300 for a respray for my 21t, is this normal sorta prices or am i being ripped off ??, it's a non metallic colour.
This quote is based on staying the same colour, i'll have the interior and most, but not all the car stripped. |

it all depends on the prep. but a same colour respray shouldnt; be that dear.
If its a proper strip out bare metal effort then thats a good price.
I assume they will not be doing the bay, door suts boot etc though? |

Im planning to take the engine out before they get it so i can gut the bay out, but not planning on the bay being sprayed, but if the bay looks a mess once the engine is out then i'll get it sprayed aswell.
The door shuts look in good nick so i cant see them getting done,
I dont think its gonna be a bare metal respray,
Iv also being thinking about a colour change, staying with red but changing the shade slightly, maybe a cherry red or something, but that would cost a bomb, but im also thinking the original colour nice and new and not a 13 yr old faded look might look cracking
i take it a bare metal job is better ?
(respraying is something i know nothing about ) |

well it matters not if the door shuts are crap they should really get done, just to match.
Bare metal re-spray doesn't mean better at all, its dearer and you can get a good indication of metal see if anything spread under the paint or if spots are strating to tear etc. |

if the paint underneath is fine tho, no reason not to go over it...it is a good base to build on. plus it has been there since it was made so never been exposed to the elements. may end up unearthing more trouble. |

Think i'll start doing some "homework" on this, could be a nice learning curve for myself as i go along, and if rubbing it down myself makes the respray bill cheaper then thats fine with me and im keen on the bare metal thing aswell |

yeah..down to bare metal is a bit of an overkill i think, like what ppl do with ancient classic collectors type cars with full restoration jobs...
you can just rub yours down prior to taking it to them to reduce the labour costs a LOT, as prep is the time consuming bit. |

unless you rub it down there then theres noi point.
Primer absorbs moisture so if its down to the primer and moved it rusts, if its bare metal then moved again it rusts. |

dont need to rub it down to the primer, just keying the top of what is already there. so long as that has a good 'grip' then it will be a good base to work on. |

yes but theres lots of rust on the 21 so its gonna have to be bare metalled in places and primered. |
